8th Street Sidewalk & Gutter Project
A project has been underway for over a decade to bring curbs, gutters and sidewalks to 8th St in Penrose. While most people agree that sidewalks, curbs and gutters would be beneficial, some are concerned about the County's plan to narrow the street as part of the project.
Butler Holmes Park
Phase II of the reconstruction of Butler Holmes Park is current the Neighborhood's top priority for the Neighborhood Conservation program. Phase II will re-grade the playing field, add the tot lot and replacing the fencing in the park.
Penrose Square Town Square
In front of the Penrose Square Development (with the new Giant) will be a new town square which includes a tree-covered, upper terrace with movable tables and chairs; a large, flexible, paved plaza in the central portion of the square designed to host performances; an interactive water fountain, a unique two piece sculpture called "Echo"; and two mounded lawn areas shaded by trees for casual seating. Phase I is currently under construction; Phase II cannot occur until additional land from the adjacent parcel (which is currently the CVS parking lot) is acquired; a timeline for redevelopment of that property is not currently known.
